Privacy Policy

Preliminary draft, provided as a starting point. Before public launch this text must be reviewed by legal counsel specialising in data protection (GDPR).

Your privacy is essential to RoLove. This policy explains what data we collect, why, how we use it and what rights you have. RoLove is a dating app intended exclusively for people aged 18 and over.

1. Who the data controller is

The controller of your data is the RoLove team (“RoLove”, “we”). For any question about personal data, write to privacy@rolove.ro or hello@rolove.ro.

2. What data we collect

Account data: email address and the identifier provided by Apple or Google at sign-in.
Profile data: name, date of birth (for age verification), gender, intentions, photos, prompts/bio, interests, current city and county of origin.
Verification: your email address and phone number, used to confirm you are a real person.
Activity: likes, matches, messages (text, photos and voice messages), reports and blocks.
Voice messages: we use the microphone only while you record a voice message in a conversation. The recording reaches only the person you are talking to and is deleted with your account.
Coming home (optional, RoLove+): the town in Romania and the trip dates you choose. People in the area see them at most 14 days before you arrive; we delete them automatically after the last day of the trip or when your subscription ends.
Crossed paths (optional): only if you switch it on, and only while the app is open, your phone sends an approximate position rounded to about 1 km. We turn it into an encoded zone and do not keep the coordinates. The zone is deleted after 24 hours, the history of encoded zones (used so that we never flag crossings where you often are, such as home) after 14 days, and crossings after 8 days. Others only learn the day and the town, never the time, the place or the distance. When you switch it off, we delete all of this straight away.
Technical data: device identifiers, push tokens (FCM), error logs and aggregated usage data.
Payment data: subscriptions and purchases are processed by the App Store and Google Play. We do not receive or store your card details.

3. Why we use data (purposes and legal basis)

To provide the service (account, profile, matching, chat) — performance of a contract.
For safety and moderation (verification, abuse detection, reports) — legitimate interest and legal obligations.
For notifications about matches and messages — performance of a contract and/or consent.
For Crossed paths (approximate location) — your consent, which you withdraw by switching it off in the app.
To improve the app (aggregated statistics, error prevention) — legitimate interest.
For marketing communications — only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with providers that help us operate the service:

Google Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, photo storage, notifications and hosting.
Apple & Google Play — authentication and payment processing.
Resend — sending transactional emails (verification, notifications).
Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini) — automated review of chat text messages and photos, for community safety, on servers in the European Union.
Cloudflare — domain and email services for rolove.ro.

Other users see the information you add to your public profile (photos, name, age, city, county of origin, intentions, interests). We do not make your email or contact details public.

5. International transfers

Data is primarily processed on servers in the European Union. When a provider processes data outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (for example, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses).

6. How long we keep data

We keep data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and associated data, except information we are legally required to keep (for example, records related to abuse reports or tax obligations) and backups, which expire on a rolling basis.

Photos rejected in moderation: we keep one copy, accessible only to the moderation team, while the case is open and for 30 more days after the decision (the period in which you can appeal it), and never longer than 90 days.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right to: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability.

You can edit your profile at any time in the app.
You can delete your account directly in Settings → Delete account — deletion is permanent.
For any other request, write to privacy@rolove.ro.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. The website and cookies

The rolove.ro website uses a minimum of technical cookies necessary to function. We do not use advertising tracking cookies. The contact form sends your message to our team by email.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, strict database access rules and anti-abuse protection (Firebase App Check). No system is perfect, but we treat security as a continuous priority.

10. Minors

RoLove is intended exclusively for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. You'll be notified in the app or by email when we make important changes.
