More than 425,000 Americans report Romanian ancestry, according to the 2023 American Community Survey — and that doesn't count everyone who arrived recently on a study or work visa. The community is there. The problem is that it's spread across an entire continent.

Where Romanians live in America

The largest communities are in the New York and New Jersey area, Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit, as well as Phoenix, Cleveland, Atlanta, Florida and Sacramento. In many cities, community life gathers around Romanian Orthodox churches, Christmas and Easter, or 1 December, Romania's national day.
