Romanians in New York and New Jersey: missing home in America's biggest city

New York was one of the first gateways for Romanians coming to America, more than a century ago. Today, according to 2017–2021 estimates, around 7,100 Romanian immigrants live in Queens alone, roughly 3,800 in Manhattan and about 2,600 in Brooklyn. Add New Jersey across the river and it becomes one of the largest communities in the United States.

A city with no time to spare

In New York the days are long, so are the subway rides, and free evenings are few. On mainstream apps you're one profile among millions, and the chance of stumbling on someone from your own corner of home is close to zero.
