Almost half of first-generation Romanians in Canada live in Ontario, most of them around Toronto, and about a third in Quebec, mainly in Montreal. Smaller communities live in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa.

In Montreal many Romanians speak French every day, in Toronto English — but at home, on the phone with their parents or over sarmale at the holidays, the language is still Romanian. And someone who feels the same is harder to find than it sounds.
